Educational Character Building

American Character Builders works to provide schools with educational curricula that addresses the real choices people face. Throughout America people are bullied, alcohol is irresponsibly consumed and drugs are sold. Our goal is to prepare the young adult and teenager for the decisions that they will face. The original kits sold in the state of Alabama helped teachers fulfill part of the following 1975 Code of Alabama mandate:

"The State Board of Education and all local boards shall develop and implement...a comprehensive character education program for all grades to consist of not less than ten minutes instruction per day focusing upon the students' development of the following character traits: Courage, patriotism, citizenship, honesty, fairness, respect for others, kindness, cooperation, self-respect, self-control, courtesy, compassion, tolerance, diligence, generosity, punctuality, cleanliness, cheerfulness, school pride, respect for the environment, patience, creativity, sportsmanship, loyalty, and perseverance. Each plan of instruction shall include the Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag" (1995 Accountability Law).

American Character Builders benefits students by teaching them how to make wise decisions and choices in life—choices that lead to a healthy, happy and productive life.

American Character Builders benefits churches, counseling services and community recovery programs by becoming a “first line of defense,” heading off addictive behaviors before those behaviors develop and destroy lives and break up homes.

American Character Builders benefits the business community.  By teaching students how to make healthy lifestyle choices and by advocating and promoting a healthy and productive lifestyle, citizens have more resources to spend on goods and services that have a positive impact on the economic development of their communities.  Insurance costs, accidents and time away from work can all be reduced.

Milton King, founder of Determined 2 Be Mentor & Leadership Program (D2B), started a mentoring ministry with young men in Birmingham. They meet at the Birmingham Library downtown and his group has grown from 5 to 31 in just 10 months. He uses American Character Builders program resources to mentor the young men in D2B.  This video interview tells his story.
